Conceal is lightly textured to blend in with woodgrain. It’s also available in 7 different colors that closely match the most popular stain colors. Because of the texture, it’s not quite a shiny as Log Builder. Log Builder is a traditional smooth acrylic sealant and is availabel in 3 wood-toned colors. It will depend on the look you want which product you use, but we can guarantee you excellent results, no matter which direction you go.
One the first go around, we recommend caulking very last, for a few reasons: 1) the stain acts as a “primer” for Log Builder, helping it to adhere to the joint better; 2) the stain provides an added barrier of protection behind the caulk, in case the crack or check opens up wide over time (which is part of the normal charm of a log homes); and 3) it’s best to match the caulk to the stain the first time around. When it’s time to do maintenance coats of stain, you can certainly apply the stain over top and it won’t cause any issues and will be a close match most of the time.
