No. Carpenter Bees don’t actually ingest the wood, so they are not affected by borate treatments.
As with all borate products, the answer is no. For Board Defense to perform its intended function, it has to penetrate into bare, clean wood. If a coating exists on the wood surface, it acts as a barrier to the Board Defense/water solution, prohibiting penetration and retention.
No. Board Defense is only effective if allowed to soak into the bare wood and create a “shell” of protection. If used in the stain itself, it won’t mix in properly, and any that is left will leech out of the surface quickly. It needs to be used under a stain of some kind.
