What is high performance?
We talk a lot about high performance around here, but what the heck makes a sealant or caulk high performance?
A sealant or caulk should be flexible, elastic, and adhesive. Many sealants are flexible, adhesive, or elastic. It is the combination of all three together that leads to high performance, meaning durability and longevity you can trust.

Give us a call. We think you are missing something. The whole idea here is that you don’t have to paint anymore. (But sure).
No. This is a rough one. Go get some caulk remover and good luck.
Any water-based paint or stain is fine. Be sure to go lighter on the stain. Only 10 ml required.
Try hitting the bottom of the cartridge on a flat surface. This can help get air out of the system, leaving room for paint and thickener.
Try waiting a bit longer for the thickener to act. You can wait 24 hours if you like. (Also, make sure you added the thickener).
Yes. It sure does. It’s hard to predict exactly how performance will be impacted, but it should be very similar to the paint. If you are using a solid paint that won’t yellow, then your caulk shouldn’t either.
Ensure that you only add 20 mL of paint (which will fill the syringe to 2/3 full) or 15 mL of stain.
Yes!
If you add the thickener before the paint is fully mixed, you’ll never have a chance to get the paint more mixed in. Shake the tube until the outside of the cartridge looks to all be a consistent color (or close to it).
A little marbling is actually ok.
When eXact Color dries, the formulation (other than the paint) dries clear. So you won’t see any marbling. You’ll only see the color of your paint.
But if you aren’t sure/if this is your first time testing the product, it’s always safe to keep shaking.
Yes! We’ve done studies on this.
Even though it feels like the product thickens up after a few seconds, data shows that shaking for an entire minute helps to fully body the product.
6 months. You can get more than that if you put the cap back on it and store it in a cool, dry place.
This could be a few things.
1. Did you wait at least 30 minutes after shaking the activator in before applying?
2. Did you only add 20 ml of paint?
3. Did you shake the cartridge for a full minute after adding the thickener?
4. Did you ensure that all of the thickener made it into the tube? (Be sure to cut it while it is oriented upward to prevent spillage when cutting the nozzle).
If you answered “yes,” to all of these questions, we’d like to help. Give us a call at 1-800-767-5656 for some good-old-fashioned technical support.
Any water-based paint or stain should be fine. Avoid mixing in oil-based/solvent-based paints.
Nothing. Like all water-based paints, eXact Color will shift in color as it dries. Typically, it gets darker and bolder (though that depends on the paint you added). The color should be a perfect match after a day or two.
We’ve seen all sorts of creative ways of mixing eXact Color. Our favorite way is to get your paint store to do it for you. We offer stores a paint-shaker adapter that lets them mix the tubes without the manual labor.
If your favorite paint store doesn’t offer that, have them give us a call…and we’ll work to get them set up.
