RI Log Home Restoration Tips for NEW LOG HOME CONTRACTORS

Ryan Sullivan feature

Every month we feature a contractor, business, or success story. After all, learning from each other is one of the best ways to grow. Up this month: Ryan Sullivan with RI Log Home Restoration in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Keep reading for more details on how he got started and what helped has led to his success.

How’d you get started in log home finishing?

My wife and I purchased a log home five years ago. We loved everything about the home but didn’t realize the extent of work needed to restore the exterior. After struggling to find a contractor in the area we took on the project ourselves. We watched our home slowly come back to life and fell in love with the process. I had worked in the construction industry for 15 years and knew this was a field I wanted to get into. One thing led to another, and I started RI Log Home Restoration with the support of experienced contractors in neighboring areas.

What do you attribute to your early success?

We take a quality over quantity approach and work hard to build trust. Positive word of mouth and referrals have always been our main growth driver. We were booked more than a year after our second year in business.

What would you consider to be your biggest win over the last year?

The return clients. RI turned six this year and past customers are consistently reaching back out for maintenance. It means a lot that our customers trust us enough to spend their hard-earned money to bring us back. Every call back validates our hard work in years past and gives us motivation to keep it up.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Be the hardest working in the room. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty as an owner. I would also recommend being as honest and transparent as possible with both your crew and customers. Our business runs on trust.

What’s the future look like for RI Log Home Restoration?

We are lining up work for next season and are excited for the future.
