Design Tips
Gutter Systems:
Plan on a good
gutter system that keeps water from sheeting down the logs and directs the water
away from your home.
Overhangs/Porches:
Because it is
the combination of water and sun (UV rays) that does the most damage to finishing
products, you want to plan for long overhangs and, when possible, porches.
Log End Protection:
Log ends really
can take in water. Notice how these log corners and purlins are well under the eaves.
Log Placement:
All of these homes
start the 1st course of logs well off the ground eliminating snow buildup, rain
splash back and water from sprinkler systems from wearing away the coating on the
bottom log courses.
