Home Maintenance
What is the key to log home maintenance?
Inspection! You want to know every aspect of your home and identify
areas that are more troublesome than others. Your goal is to discover
why a problem may be occurring so that you can correct it and not
just treat the symptom.
Log
Home Staining & Stains for logs
Although this is the third application step
in the maintenance process, two homework items should have been
accomplished much earlier: researching compatibility of the new
stain to the existing stain on your home and to chinking and caulking,
and color testing liquid samples of the colors that you are considering
on an inconspicuous part of your home. You really don’t want
to stall your project now making these decisions, especially once
you have the logs clean, preserved and ready for stain.
The best way to address the compatibility
issue is to call the manufacturer of the stain you are considering
and ask them for assistance. You will be asked to provide the name
of the stain, the color, and the manufacturer of the existing stain
on your home. Contrary to popular thought, not all oil-based stains
for logs are compatible with one another; the same is true of latex-based
stains.
Chinking
No matter what it encounters—wind,
rain, sleet, sun or snow, Log Jam chinking effectively holds its
seal. Log Jam chinking keeps your home comfortable while keeping
the weather where it belongs—outside. Log Jam chinking is
the elastic sealant that handles joint movement up to 100%—even
in joints up to 4" wide—while maintaining its original
appearance. With superior adhesion and elasticity, Log Jam chinking
is guaranteed not to crack, tear or peel away from logs. Plus, it's
the only chinking to hold a UL one-hour fire rating: when applied
in accordance with Fire Resistance Directory Design No. UL519.
